The blouse is the piece that makes everything else work harder. A good one turns the trousers you already own into a proper outfit. It makes a simple skirt feel considered. It takes a blazer from dressed down to genuinely put together. The problem is that most blouses land in one of two camps: too fussy to actually wear, or so plain they add nothing. What we wanted to find were the ones that sit beautifully in the middle. Elegant without being precious. Versatile without being boring.

We have been methodical about this. Fabric matters more than people realise with blouses. The drape, the weight, the way it holds its shape by the end of the day. We have looked at silhouettes that work tucked and untucked, at necklines that photograph well and suit a range of face shapes, at colours and prints that genuinely earn the claim of going with everything rather than just promising it on a label.

These are the blouses we would actually reach for on a Monday morning when the outfit needs to come together fast and look like it did not.
