Everyone has a black handbag. That is not the argument for buying another one. The argument is that most black handbags are deeply average and the right one is genuinely not. A good black bag is the thing that pulls an outfit together without asking for any credit. It works with the silk blouse and the jeans. It works at the interview and at dinner afterwards. It does not compete. It just makes everything around it look more considered. We have been strict with this edit because the category is enormous and most of it is not worth your arm space. What we kept are the bags with structure that actually holds, hardware that does not turn green by February, and leather or leather look finishes that age with some dignity rather than peeling at the corners. There are shoulder bags, totes, and smaller styles for evenings when you genuinely need very little. Different prices too, because a great black bag is not always an expensive one. It just has to be the right one. Find that and you stop looking.
