French Antique Silk & Lace Base of Skirt / Exquisite Detail / circa 1900s From Paris / Fine Embroidered Lace Piece on Tulle A beautiful piece of fine embroidered French antique lace on a very pale rose gold silk type fabric lining. It is very fine, delicate & silky to the touch, but not sure if it is a kind of silk satin or cotton satin. It was once part of an elaborate skirt, & came to me from an auction in Paris. The embroidered tulle, with exquisite tiny flowers, is gathered to create a romantic valance. in French, this is called application sur tulle. it does have a little damage, to be expected from such an old item but it is not particularly visible in the gathers. It is quite a hard piece to describe & photograph so please don’t hesitate to ask for more photos. It is one of those pieces that looks better in real life than it does on the photos. Measurements: Total length 80cm / 31.5 Length of tulle 33cm / 13 Width 230cm / 90.5 I scour brocantes, vide greniers, auctions, & all sorts of nooks & crannies to find wonderful old French treasures & it is a passion that grows greater by the day.
